Online "Depolarizing Within" workshop

Our partner, Braver Angels, will be hosting a free online "Depolarizing Within" workshop Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 1 - 4 PM PST. This workshop reflects their "Rise for America" campaign and includes these elements:

  • How to be aware of your own "inner polarizer."

  • How to be critical without demonizing, dismissing, or stereotyping large swaths of the population.

  • How to constructively intervene in polarizing social conversations with like-minded people.

If you haven't had a chance to attend one of our past in-person depolarizing within workshops (which people rate very positively) or you'd like re-visit some of the skills already learned, this workshop may be for you. You can register here.
If you have any questions, or if you attend the event and want to let us know how it went, feel free to send a message to
Kristina.

Depolarizing Within Workshop

Bridging Divides: El Dorado and its partner Braver Angels, are offering a "bridging" event for South Lake Tahoe region's residents. The event, sponsored by the Tahoe Chamber & South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, will take place on April 15 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the South Tahoe Association of Realtors at 2307 James Ave.

The "Depolarizing Within" workshop is designed "to foster skills to help people lessen the effects of polarization when they encounter them in your political conversations." Anyone interested in examining their inner polarizer and learning strategies to disagree without condemning or ridiculing others is encouraged to attend. "Depolarizing Within" is ideal for organizations such as communities of civic associations, worship, social clubs, or educational institutions who want to reduce or avoid the divisiveness of political polarization."

The goal of the workshop is to teach participants:

  • How to be more aware of their own "inner polarizer".

  • How to be critical without demonizing, dismissing, or stereotyping large swaths of the population

  • Strategies for intervening constructively in social conversations with like-minded peers when these conversations veer into contempt and ridicule for people with other political views.

Trained Braver Angels Moderators, a Conservative and a Liberal, will conduct the workshop.

We have set a max of 50 people due to the venue size, so we ask you to register as soon as possible to guarantee your spot.

Bridging Divides - El Dorado Convening for South Lake Tahoe Leaders

A Bridging Divides - El Dorado Community Convening took place at the Boys and Girls Club in South Lake Tahoe with 30+ leaders from the South Lake Tahoe region (and a few from the Western Slope).

Based on feedback received from participants, the event succeeded in calling attention to the problems that result from polarization and some of the de-polarization strategies that can help bridge divides. We also heard that more time was needed (we met for two hours in SLT, not four as we had in Cameron Park) to figure out what steps to take next and to explore additional bridging strategies. Some people also suggested that we need to get more and different people to the table to learn about our divides and how to bridge them.
